While grapes are a healthy and tasty snack for us, they can cause kidney failure in dogs!โฃ

The toxic dose is variable dog to dog. Toxicity can range from over a pound of grapes ingested to as little as a single serving of raisins.โฃ

๐Ÿ‡ Grape jellies, grape juice, and wine to not appear to cause a toxicity. โฃ

๐Ÿ‡ It is speculated that the presence of ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฐ ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฑ ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐—ถ๐˜๐˜€ may be responsible for damage to the kidneys. But, further research needs to be done. โฃ

๐Ÿ‡ Symptoms can appear anywhere from 24 hours to several days after ingestion. โฃ

๐Ÿ‡ Early signs include vomiting, inappetence, lethargy, and possible diarrhea. โฃ

โฃ

๐Ÿ‡ Later symptoms may signify signs of acute kidney failure like nausea/vomiting, lethargy, inappetence, abdominal pain, excessive thirst, excessive urination and/or inability to produce urine.โฃ

๐Ÿ‡ The best treatment is to ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐˜‚๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐˜ƒ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด at a vet clinic within 2-3 hours of ingestion to decrease the chance of toxin absorption. โฃ
