An FHO is a surgical procedure that attempts to restore pain-free mobility to the diseased or damaged hip joint. We do this by removing the head of the femur from the joint socket and the femur.
The muscles of the leg will hold the leg in place and, overtime, the joint will form scar tissue to form a “false joint”.
Prognostically, these dogs do really well. They usually will have some decreased range of motion in that joint.
