FEMORAL HEAD OSTECTOMY (FHO)⁣⁣

An FHO is a surgical procedure that attempts to restore pain-free mobility to the diseased or damaged hip joint. We do this by removing the head of the femur from the joint socket and the femur. ⁣

The muscles of the leg will hold the leg in place and, overtime, the joint will form scar tissue to form a “false joint”. ⁣

Prognostically, these dogs do really well. They usually will have some decreased range of motion in that joint.
